About the piece
Tri mlada meseca [Three young Moons] – Ostinato, Intermezzo and Aria for string orchestra, is a piece in three parts, whereas each of them clearly points out to a certain stylistic characteristic of baroque music. In Ostinato segment, music material is arranged similarly to the manner used in passacaglias and chaconnes. However, the bass line is not fully subordinated to their logic, but it moves freely, dictated by the music itself. Intermezzo is based on motoric movement, and it finds its parallel in short intermezzi interpolated in baroque operas. Aria, as the final (third) part of the composition, unambiguously looks after the eponymous form from the baroque opera, but in this case transferred to instrumental music. The part of solo viola is analogous to the vocal part in a baroque aria.
