Musicologist Tijana Popović Mladjenović, PhD, is Professor at the Department of Musicology of the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade, where she teaches History of European and National Music in the last decades of the 19th century and first decades of the 20th century.
She also teaches at the Department of Musicology and Ethnomusicology of the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad and at the Music Academy in Cetinje, Montenegro.
She graduated from the Department of Musicology of the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, where she also received her master’s and doctoral degrees. Her graduation thesis ”Differentia specifica – from the Composing Practice of the 1960s in Belgrade”, master’s thesis ”Musical Writing and the Awareness of Musical Language with Special Consideration on Avant-Garde Music in the Second Half of the 20th Century”, and doctoral dissertation ”Processes of Pan-stylistic Musical Thinking”, were published.
As the holder of a French Government scholarship, she specialized contemporary French music at the University of Paris IV Sorbonne. As part of her doctoral dissertation research, she also stayed in Boston and Oxford.
Her main research interests include the history of music of the fin de siècle, contemporary music, and the issues concerning thinking in music.
She participated in numerous conferences (Serbia, France, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Lithuania, FBiH, Greece, Great Britain, Poland, etc.), and published studies in musicological journals and monographic musicological publications in the country and abroad (in Serbian, English, French, and German).
She also contributes to encyclopedias The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart, and Serbian Encyclopedia. She is a member of the Editorial Staff of the musicological journal Musical Wave. As a researcher, she is included in various scientific projects of the Department of Musicology of the Faculty of Music.
She is a member of the International Musicological Society, the International Project on Musical Signification, the Managing Board of the Serbian Musicological Society, the Managing Board of the Serbian Composers’ and Music Writers’ Association, and the Board of the Matica Srpska Department of Stage Art and Music.
