Intermezzowas commissioned by Pavel Mihelčič for the MD7 Ensemble. The composition has an expressiveness that – through condensed articulation of all but minimalistically conceived motive patterns – brings a range of contrasts, although the individual lines stick to the explicitly limited ambitus. Developing metrical rhythm, minutely elaborated motive cells within a prevailingly polyphonic texture and the management of the unfolding “dramaof fragments”, are perhaps its most characteristic structural traits. Besides MD7 Ensemble, Intermezzo was performed also by Neues Ensemble (Austria), Ensemble Traiect (Romania) and Luxembourg Sinfonietta (Hong Kong).
