Smiljana Vlajić (Serbia) finished her studies in composition at the Department of Composition of the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad in 1998. At the same school in 2006 she acquired her M. Mus. degree in composition. She specialized at Hochshcule für Musik in Vienna. She works as assistant professor at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad.

Smiljana Vlajić composes and researches in the field of music theory. Special interests are in the realm of music perception and psychology. She is one of the authors affiliated to the ensemble Alchemy of Music. She is a member of the Serbian Composers Association and Association of Composers of Vojvodina. Her pieces were performed in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Podgorica, Ljubljana and Vienna.

String Quartet
The process through which this string quartet has evolved is, in my opinion, very similar to the alchemical process through which the newly formed entity is introduced to ‘life’ after being finally shaped. After leaving the hands of its creator that entity enters the sound space over which the author has no control… Through four movements its four different faces could be followed…
