Kristijan Dimpker

Christian Dimpker (1982, Germany) is a composer and art theorist with academic studies in Philosophy, History and Sound Studies as well as a doctoral dissertation in Musicology / Composition. Currently, Dimpker further extends this research to the visual and performing arts (Kinetic notations, Vienna 2022, VfMK Publishers). Residencies and grants include the Cité des Arts Paris, EMS Stockholm, SWR Experimentalstudio, St John’s Smith Square, Kuenstlerdorf Schoeppingen and concert funding by the Berlin senate, cultural exchange GLOBAL (Japan/Sweden), E.ON foundation, Lotto foundation, German Artist Fund. Performances in Germany, Japan, Romania, Spain, Portugal, the USA and Australia.

About the work

Klanggruppen (sound groups) is an introductory piece. This is true for the utilised playing techniques as well as for the method of composition. The title refers to the sound group technique: for every movement a sound group, i.e. a number of playing techniques, is defined. By doing so, any movement is characterised by a particular sound-wise quality that clearly distinguishes it from the other movements. However, these sound groups also partially refer to each other, meaning that certain techniques are taken up again at a later stage or, respectively, resemble each other, which guarantees the uniformity of the work.
