Marko Kovač

Marko Kovač (b. 1990, Serbia) is a composer and pianist. He graduated from the high school of music in Podgorica, piano department, in the class of prof. Anka Asanović. He won awards at national and international piano competitions and attended numerous master classes in piano and composition. He completed his undergraduate and master’s academic studies in composition at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade in the class of Isidora Žebeljan. He is currently in the final year of doctoral academic studies in the class of Draško Adžić. His music has been performed at festivals in Belgium, Poland, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia, such as BEMUS, Cello Fest, Kotor art, KoMA, FESTUM, Lasciar vibrare, Rostrum + Windows of the World, EMJ Neerpelt. As a pianist, he premiered thirty compositions. He was a teaching associate at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, at the Department of Composition and Orchestration, for four years. He works as a music producer of the RTS Symphony Orchestra and RTS Choir, as well as of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra.

About the piece

Himna [The Hymn], trio for violin, clarinet and piano (2021) is a miniature inspired by the possibility of combining music minimalism, Olivier Messiaen’s music and sevdalinka music tradition. The piece is dedicated to the Aratos Trio.
