Wind Quintet No. 1constitutes a blend of the contemporary and the traditional, both in terms of its musical language and use of a standard performing apparatus, i.e. flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon. I maintained that I should pursue innovation, but without entirely rejecting values that might be considered traditional. Such a poetic was close to me when I composed this wind quintet and it remains relevant in my current creative work in music.
The piece comprises five movements: Allegro tempestoso, Scherzando, Adagio, Allegro robustamento, Andante, and a return to Allegro robustamento. Composing the work, I paid special attention to each instrumental part, in an effort to unify the lapidary and fragmentary character of all five movements into a coherent and integrated musical flow.
